Biography

 
Part of the TJCA community since 2011, Robin currently serves as the Upper Campus Media Center Coordinator. 
 
His accomplishments include: 
 
  • Having more than 25 years as an educator in Rutherford County, including serving as a high school teacher and Head Start coordinator for Rutherford County Schools
  • Serving three years as an adult high school instructor at Isothermal Community College
 
He earned a: 
 
  • Associate of Arts from Isothermal Community College
  • Bachelor of Science from Appalachian State University
  • Professional Certificate in Adult Literacy Services from Western Kentucky University
 
Outside of work, Robin enjoys spending time with his family. He is the President of the Rutherford County Historical Society and serves as the official Historian of Rutherford County. He is Charman of the Rutherford County Library Board of Trustees, a past member of the Appalachian State University Foundation Board of Trustees, and a past appointee to the North Carolina Regional Economic Development Council (R.E.D.C.) by former North Carolina Governor James G. Martin. Robin is an award-winning historian and author of more than 40 books and scholarly monographs that celebrate the people, places, and traditions of the American South. He also served as the chief historian and commentator for an Emmy-nominated PBS documentary film and was interviewed live on the National Public Radio (N.P.R.) show "All Things Considered." In 2013, he was bestowed the legendary order of the Long Leaf Pine, North Carolina's highest civilian honor.
